Community

One goal of the Walnut Grove PTA is to build community within our school by offering various events, such as the following:

  • Welcome Back Coffee
  • Back-to-School Family Social
  • Parents Night Out
  • Coffee with the Principal
  • Mornings with Mom/Dad events
  • The Fun Run
  • Open House Ice Cream Social

Welcome Back Coffee

On the first day of school, right after dropoff, the Walnut Grove PTA invites parents to catch up with friends, make new ones, and hear what our principal has to say — all while enjoying a cup of coffee! If you're interested in helping out at this fun event, please contact Summer Bowers

Back-to-School Family Social

Shortly after school starts again in the fall, the Walnut Grove PTA invites families to join us for a community-building family social. Food trucks will be on-site for those who wish to buy dinner and/or dessert, or bring your own picnic and enjoy the music and company. It's a great time to reconnect with other Walnut Grove families as we begin the school year.

If you're interested in helping out at this fun event, please contact Summer Bowers

Parents Night Out

The Walnut Grove PTA invites parents to join us for an evening out while enjoying music, food, and friends. This year's event will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, from 7 to 11 pm at Handles Gastropub (855 Main Street) in downtown Pleasanton.

Walnut Grove's 3rd annual Parents Night Out will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, from 7 to 11 pm at Handles Gastropub (855 Main Street, Pleasanton).

Advance tickets cost $20 each. (Tickets at the door will cost $25.) Each ticket price includes appetizers, a live band, 1 non-alcoholic drink (can upgrade to an alcoholic drink for $3 at the event), and 1 raffle ticket. The raffle prize is 4 1-day Disneyland Park Hopper tickets (valued at $600).

Please come and join the Walnut Grove community on this fun-filled evening!

You can purchase tickets online, or download and fill out this form, and drop it with your check in the Parents Night Out box in the Walnut Grove office.

If you would like to help out with Parents Night Out, please contact Jen Skinner.

Coffee with the Principal

Once a month, the PTA hosts a discussion time with our principal where you can ask questions and find out the latest school news. For the 2014–15 school year, these events will take place on the first Thursday of every month from 2 to 2:50 pm.

For more information, contact Summer Bowers.

Mornings with Mom/Dad events

Twice a year, the PTA invites moms or dads to come to school early and have breakfast with your child. Both events usually take place in the spring. If you are interested in helping out with these events, please contact Summer Bowers.

Fun Run

The annual Fun Run is a wonderful community-building event that encourages Walnut Grove students to be active while supporting our school. Students are encouraged to obtain pledges for each lap they run to raise money for the school.

The day of the Fun Run is full of laughter, fun, music, community pride, and healthy exercise. Each student is given a Fun Run T-shirt sponsored by the friends and families in our community. Each grade level is assigned a "spirit color" to wear. Many classes choose to tie-dye their t-shirts; color their hair; and adorn socks, hairbands, and even tutus to show their spirit.

Parent volunteers join Mr. Taylor (one of our amazing Walnut Grove PE teachers and our MC for the event) in decorating the school grounds with colorful flags and balloons to set the tone for the day. On the day of the event, we crank up the volume of the music and party! Parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends come out for the day and cheer on the students.

The Fun Run is a great way to come together and mingle with old friends and new, while raising money for Walnut Grove. It stands out as a highlight of every school year!

If you are interested in helping out at this event or participating as a sponsor, please contact Kym Gentry-Peck.

Open House Ice Cream Social

The PTA provides ice cream at Walnut Grove's spring Open House, inviting families to enjoy some refreshment together while they explore our classrooms and celebrate student achievements. For more information about this event, please contact Summer Bowers.
